Minimum Qualifications for Police Officer- 

• Minimum age: 21

• Education:

  • Graduated from an accredited high school (or proof of high school equivalency, such as G.E.D. certification.)

• A Valid Driver's License:

  • Must be presented at the time of application. An Alabama driver's license must be obtained prior to employment.

• Citizenship:

  • UNITED STATES citizenship and/or proof of naturalization are required.

• Character:

  • No conviction of a felony or a misdemeanor involving, force, violence or moral turpitude.

• Oral Interview:

  • Will evaluate personal appearance, communication skills, emotional stability, maturity, and suitability for position.

• Physical Agility Examination:

  • Applicant must pass physical ability/agility examination, seat-ups, push-ups, 1.5 mile running, dead weight drag, and etc.

• Psychological Examination:

  • Psychological suitability and compatibility tests are administered by the Calhoun-Cleburne Mental Health Center.

• Physical Examination:

  • Applicant shall be certified by the designated City of Jacksonville licensed physician as being in good health and physically fit for the performance of his/her duties as a police officer.

• Background Investigation:

  • Applicants shall be subject to undergo a thorough background investigation to assess suitability for employment. Checks with previous employers, credit bureau, driving record, schools, character references, and etc. will be made.

• Drug Screening:

  • Applicant shall he subject to a drug screening to ensure that employees are drug free according to the City of Jacksonville's Drug Free Workplace Policy.

• Pay scale - $13.45 to $22.19 plus benefits

Minimum Qualifications for Part-Time Police (/ Fire) Communication Officer -

• Minimum age: 19
• Education:
  • Graduated from an accredited high school (or proof of high school equivalency, such as G.E.D. certification.)
  • Experience in general clerical or communications work including some experience in police (fire) communications work.
  • Must be certifiable in NCIC / ACJIC computer terminal operations.
  • Must pass the City's required drug tests prior to employment
• Citizenship:
  • UNITED STATES citizenship and/or proof of naturalization are required.
• Character:
  • No conviction of a felony or a misdemeanor involving, force, violence or moral turpitude.

• Oral Interview:

  • Will evaluate personal appearance, communication skills, emotional stability, maturity, and suitability for position.

• Pay scale - $11.57 to $19.15 plus benefits

Minimum Qualifications for Jail / Maintenance -

• Minimum age: 21
• Education:
  • Graduated from an accredited high school (or proof of high school equivalency, such as G.E.D. certification.)
  • Experience in maintenance and repair work
  • Experience in jail operations
  • Experience in radio communication
• Necessary Special  Requirements:
  • A Valid State of Alabama Driver's License and have a driving record suitable for insurability.
  • Be certified in jail management prior to hiring or within the employee probationary period
  • Be certified in NCIC / ACJIC computer terminal operations prior to hiring or within the employee probationary period
• Citizenship:
  • UNITED STATES citizenship and/or proof of naturalization are required.
• Character:
  • No conviction of a felony or a misdemeanor involving, force, violence or moral turpitude.

• Oral Interview:

  • Will evaluate personal appearance, communication skills, emotional stability, maturity, and suitability for position.

• Pay scale - $10.92 to $18.05 plus benefits

Written Examination -

Will evaluate general aptitude and related knowledge pertinent to successful performance in the duties of a police officer and/or police communication officer. This examination will be scheduled and given by the Jacksonville Civil Service Board
